Reaching Machu Picchu on foot changes everything. On the Inca Journey, you hike the Salkantay Trek and enjoy full days in Cusco and the Sacred Valley, experiencing life alongside Andean families and taking the time to truly feel the culture.

Along the way, you will discover the turquoise waters of Humantay Lake, the Salkantay Pass at 4,600 meters, the transition from high mountain peaks to the Andean jungle, nights in domes and lodges, and your arrival at Machu Picchu via the trail, not a tourist bus.

The journey concludes in Ollantaytambo, a living Inca village, leaving you with that wonderful feeling of a shared accomplishment.

It is not about checking Machu Picchu off a list. It is about taking the Andes home in your heart.

What our days will look like

Day 1

Arrival in Cusco and first contact with the Andes

The local team welcomes you at the airport and transfers you to the hotel. Cusco sits at 3,400 meters, so the first day is all about taking it easy.

You will be welcomed with coca tea, helpful guidance on altitude and logistics, and a relaxed conversation about the days ahead.

No rush and no tight schedule: your body gradually adjusts while we get to know each other.

The best experience in Alter do Chão!

Without a doubt, it was the best experience I have ever had! The expedition was simply incredible from beginning to end. Impeccable organisation and an extremely attentive team who know the region deeply and respect the local nature. Every detail was thought through with great care: breathtaking landscapes, wonderful freshwater beaches, trails, cultural immersion and that feeling of living something unique. Beyond all the beauty, I felt safe the whole time and very well welcomed. You can tell when work is done with love and responsibility. I recommend it without hesitation to anyone who wants to experience the real Alter do Chão, far beyond basic tourism. An unforgettable experience!

The most incredible carnival experience in the world

It was my first solo trip and I could write a whole book about how wonderful this experience was. Ana Carms has an approach to travel that is very different from the conventional one, a proposal of real immersion in the local culture and way of life, always respectfully. In 2026, being without internet for 5 days may sound bizarre and frightening, but in the end you come back grateful and wanting to stay longer. There is a clear reason for that disconnection, and the result for me were the great friends I made on this trip, which certainly would not have happened if we had our phones. The care the women of the agency put into every detail is admirable, and you feel all that affection in the details of everything you live there. Trust them and just go! A special thank you to Seu Sabá's family, who make everything even more magical with their care, from the delicious food to Bob the dog, who welcomes you with licks when you arrive on the little boat. Thank you for everything, ANA CARMS team, I already want to collect every expedition you offer.
